Terms of Use
Last updated:
These terms are an agreement between you and Leg Up Learning LLC (“we,” “us”), which makes and operates LegUp: the LegUp app on the web, the LegUp Android app (in closed testing), and this website (together, “LegUp”). By signing in to or using LegUp you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your family’s information. If you do not agree, please do not use LegUp.
1. Who may use LegUp
- LegUp accounts are for adults. You must be at least 18 (or the age of majority where you live) to sign in and set LegUp up.
- You may set LegUp up only for a child who is your own, or for whom you are the legal guardian, or with the permission of that child’s parent or guardian.
- Children use LegUp through a grown-up’s account, on a device that grown-up has signed in. By setting a child up, you agree to these terms on the child’s behalf and are responsible for their use of LegUp.
- If you invite another grown-up to a child’s record, you are responsible for choosing whom to invite. A grown-up added as a guardian gets the same access as you, including the child’s data and the ability to delete it.
2. Your account
You sign in with your email address and a one-time code we send to it. Keep access to that email address and to your signed-in devices secure, and set a grown-up PIN if a child can reach a device that is signed in to your account. Tell us promptly at privacy@leguplearning.com if you think someone else has used your account.
3. The AI buddy
- The buddy is an artificial intelligence, not a person. It is designed to guide children to their own answers rather than give answers to graded work.
- AI can be wrong. The buddy can misread handwriting, misjudge an answer, or say something unhelpful. Please look over your child’s learning and let us know when something is off.
- LegUp supports learning at home. It does not replace a teacher, and it is not a tutoring, medical, mental-health, or emergency service.
- When something a child says suggests they may need help, the buddy encourages them to talk to a trusted adult and LegUp shows the grown-up a flag. This is not monitoring and cannot be relied on to detect every concern. If a child is in danger, call 911 or your local emergency number.
4. Using LegUp properly
You agree not to, and not to let anyone using your account:
- use LegUp for anything unlawful, or to harm, harass, or exploit anyone, especially a child;
- add a child you are not entitled to set up, or invite a grown-up who should not see a child’s information;
- try to get around LegUp’s safety features, answer protections, or the grown-up PIN;
- access another family’s data, probe or disrupt LegUp’s systems, or use automated means to access LegUp other than as we provide;
- copy, resell, or build a competing product from LegUp or its lessons, or reverse-engineer it except where the law allows.
5. Your family’s content
Your child’s handwriting, drawings, messages, and other things created in LegUp belong to you and your child. You give us permission to store, process, and display that content only as needed to run LegUp for your family, including sending it to our service providers (such as our AI providers) as described in the Privacy Policy. We use a child’s learning data to train LegUp’s own teaching models only if you turn that on in the dashboard. You can download or delete your child’s content at any time (see Delete your account).
6. Our content
LegUp, including its software, design, characters, lessons, and videos, is owned by Leg Up Learning LLC or used under license from others, such as openly licensed curriculum materials. We give you a personal, non-transferable permission to use LegUp for your family’s learning while these terms apply.
7. Price
LegUp is currently provided without charge. If we introduce paid features, we will tell you the price and terms before you are asked to pay, and nothing will be charged without your agreement.
8. Changes and availability
LegUp is new and changing. We may add, change, or remove features, and LegUp may sometimes be unavailable. Where a change removes something important to you, we will try to tell you in advance. Some features need an internet connection.
9. Ending your use
You can stop using LegUp and delete your child’s account and data at any time (see Delete your account). We may suspend or close an account, or pause a child’s access, if it is used in breach of these terms, to protect a child or others, or if we stop offering LegUp. Where we can, we will tell you first and give you a chance to download your child’s data.
10. Disclaimers
We work hard to make LegUp safe, accurate, and useful, but it is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the extent the law allows, we do not promise that LegUp will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that it will achieve any particular learning result.
11. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, Leg Up Learning LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses arising from your use of LegUp, and our total liability for any claim relating to LegUp is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for LegUp in the 12 months before the claim or US$100. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and disputes will be heard in the courts located there, except where the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim locally.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top and, for significant changes, tell the account holder by email before they take effect. Continuing to use LegUp after that means you accept the updated terms.
